PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The lightweight, rugged pTerex Mobile Tactical Edge Network (MTEN) product line is designed to
seamlessly and transparently manage
the global roaming of mobile networks among and between
virtually any current or future network—wired, cellular, WiFi, and satellite—with no user intervention
required. This allows, for example, a plane to fly around the world while the onboard en route
Command Team stays connected to their home network (as well as to other dispersed roaming
users and subnets).
The more notable applications
for pTerex products currently being
assessed by DOD, federal agencies, and first responder organizations are: Mobile Command, C2
on the Move, Special Operations, tactical edge networks, in theater networks, mobile logistics
commands, Deployable Standing Joint Forces HQ, Staff deployments, mobile teams, sustainable
first responder communications, and rapid deployment remote communications.
Description
pTerex MTEN is a two-part solution
consisting of a pTerex Base Station permanently
residing on the Home network and one or more
associated deployed units. Deployed clients (user
devices: laptops, tablets, PDAs, phones, etc)
communicate exclusively with their associated
pTerex Mobile unit, which in turn communicates
exclusively with its associated pTerex Base Unit.
This communication is via IPSec tunnels
implemented through Mobile IP Tunnels. Each
deployed unit has built-in uplink capability for
landline Ethernet, Wireless, Fast Serial Cellular
(CDMA and/or GSM), and an additional Ethernet
port for an IP-based Satellite connection (e.g. Ku
Band, INMARSAT, etc.). Selection and failover
between each path is completely automated to
transparently obtain, manage, maintain and
seamlessly failover to the fastest, most reliable
available connection without any loss in session
connectivity. Additionally, all deployable pTerex units have an onboard UPS and can operate up to
7 hours without an external power source. |

pTerex MTEN products differ significantly from
older, inflexible, limited “field,” “portable” or
seemingly “mobile” (e.g. only mobile when linked to
a mobile satellite receiver) network products.
pTerex MTEN products were engineered from the
ground up for use in harsh, fluid military
environments and are designed to manage and
optimize persistent, roaming connectivity to the
home network through any available transport
carrier—wired, cellular, WiFi, radio or satellite—
again, with no user intervention required.
Mobility is achieved via the product’s ability to “roam” between different connectivity options, not
just by linking the unit to a mobile satellite
receiver. While mobile satellite receivers are an
available option, they are not the only way to
achieve mobility (as it is with other current
products based on older technology). pTerex products are fully compliant with all applicable
military and commercial standards for security,
connectivity, and ruggedness. Engineered for
usefulness and longevity, pTerex products
implement all applicable commercial standards in
a fully standardized, ruggedized, PC104
framework to ensure forward “form, fit and
function” compatibility with future carrier
methodologies (e.g. 4.9gHz, 802.16, new satellite
systems, etc) and military applications (e.g. JTRS,
WIN-T, C2OTM, etc.). Mobile Staff product
versions are packaged in a stylish, commercial
airline carry on (size and weight), tempest
compliant brushed aluminum travel case. An
onboard, quick-charging UPS powers the
deployable units for up to 7 hours and accepts a
charge from virtually any available power source
(100 – 240 VAC, 10 – 36 VDC). All pTerex MTEN deployable products are environmentally
tolerant, ruggedized and completely silent in
operation (no fans, motors or moving parts), and
ship with an included 1-year repair/replace
warranty. If a pTerex MTEN product fails, we
will ship a new unit, immediately, to wherever you
are. However, with a calculated Mean-Time-
Between-Failure (MTBF) of 80,000 operational
hours, this is unlikely to be necessary.
PRODUCTS
Available pTerex MTEN products include:
Executive Communications Suite (MTEN 2500ECS)
Classified and Unclassified functionality in a lightweight,
ruggedized roll or carry aluminum suitcase. The ESC is
small and light enough to fit into any commercial airline
overhead luggage compartment.
Vehicle Mount – Secure Unclassified (MTEN
2505VMSU)
Provides clients with secure, Sensitive But
Unclassified (SBU) network connectivity. The VMSU is a
compact, ruggedized form factor suitable for vehicular
under-dash, trunk or rack mounting.
Vehicle Mount – Secure Classified (MTEN 2505VMSC)
The VMSC works in conjunction with the 2505VMSU in
providing client connectivity for Classified network
communications. The VMSC is identical in form to the
VMSU.
Base Unit – Secure Unclassified (MTEN 2500BUSU)
The BUSU is deigned to reside in the network DMZ and
connect to the unclassified side of your home agency’s
network through the firewall to provide throughput of
unclassified data to and from the deployed unclassified
clients via their deployed MTEN units. The BUSU is a
standard server rack mount form factor.
Base Unit – Secure Classified (MTEN 2500BUSC)
The BUSC is designed to communicate with the classified
side of your home agency’s network via a standard IPbased
Type I encryption device and works in conjunction
with the 2500BUSU in providing throughput of encrypted
IP data to and from deployed classified clients to the
classified enclave of your home agency’s network. The
BUSC is identical in form to the BUSU.
