DEPLOYED COMMANDERS

The Need:
Communications are critical in order to maintain effective Command and Control. When a DOD Commander or staff deploys, current operational procedure mandates that two mobile communications teams deploy ahead of him or her. The mobile communications teams work by leap-frogging one another to the Staff’s planned interim destinations to set up a secure communications infrastructure to ensure that the Commander has the ability to maintain Command and Control from their deployed location. This occurs whether the Commander is deployed to a routine agency event, or he/she is en route to a theater in crisis, such as Afghanistan. Additionally, the Commander is assigned a top-notch communicator that travels with him/her to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise during the deployment. The Commander and his/her staff are afforded limited communications upon arrival, typically consisting of 1 or 2 connections which are shared for multiple functions: to check e-mails, hold video-teleconferences, even to monitor mission-critical applications and events, etc.

The Solution:
The pTerex MTEN solution makes the advance mobile communications teams and the infrastructure they currently create an unnecessary piece of the solution to this problem. . With the addition of a single command-provided NSA approved Type 1 encryption device, Classified IP connectivity is also available to all. En route, pTerex MTEN will seek out, select and connect to all available Ethernet, serial, wireless, cellular, or satellite uplink providers, one after the other, keeping each connection active within its automatically established IPSEC VPN tunnel, and continuously, transparently, monitor the status of each. Should one connection degrade or drop off line, pTerex MTEN seamlessly switches to the next best connection. This not only keeps the deployed commander connected, but keeps the established session active. All network resources of the Home Agency LAN remain available to the deployed commander and each member of the traveling staff, including direct e-mail, IP-based voice or video, mapping and accessing network drives, even ‘behind-the-firewall’ internet access, as necessary. Since the pTerex MTEN Executive Unit is connected to the Commander’s home network, the unit is remotely administered, managed, and troubleshot by his/her home agency’s network team.

The pTerex MTEN solution was tested and used in this capacity by General Lance Smith, Commander, USJFCOM, and NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation.

Executive Communications Suite (MTEN 2500ECS)
Classified and Unclassified functionality in a lightweight, ruggedized roll or carry aluminum suitcase. The ESC is small and light enough to fit into any commercial airline overhead luggage compartment.

Vehicle Mount – Secure Unclassified (MTEN 2505VMSU)
Provides clients with secure, Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) network connectivity. The VMSU is a compact, ruggedized form factor suitable for vehicular under-dash, trunk or rack mounting.

Vehicle Mount – Secure Classified (MTEN 2505VMSC)
The VMSC works in conjunction with the 2505VMSU in providing client connectivity for Classified network communications. The VMSC is identical in form to the VMSU.

Base Unit – Secure Unclassified (MTEN 2500BUSU)
The BUSU is deigned to reside in the network DMZ and connect to the unclassified side of your home agency’s network through the firewall to provide throughput of unclassified data to and from the deployed unclassified clients via their deployed MTEN units. The BUSU is a standard server rack mount form factor.

Base Unit – Secure Classified (MTEN 2500BUSC)
The BUSC is designed to communicate with the classified side of your home agency’s network via a standard IPbased Type I encryption device and works in conjunction with the 2500BUSU in providing throughput of encrypted IP data to and from deployed classified clients to the classified enclave of your home agency’s network. The BUSC is identical in form to the BUSU.
